An arm lift or brachioplasty is a cosmetic treatment option for patients who are self-conscious about loose skin of the upper arm. At Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery at Mercy, our plastic surgeons are recognized among the best in their field of plastic surgery and cosmetic medicine because of their experience, artistry and skill in many cosmetic medicine procedures, including brachioplasty.
What is an Arm Lift or Brachioplasty?
An arm lift, also called brachioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure used to remove hanging loose skin of the inner portion of the upper arm from the elbow to the shoulder. The arm lift will help diminish the unattractive fat and loose skin of the upper arm that prohibits many from wearing short sleeves or tank tops. The arm lift helps to firm and reshape the upper arm.
Who can benefit from the Arm Lift?
Our plastic surgeons at Cosmetic Medicine and Surgery at Mercy recommend an arm lift for patients:
- With significant upper arm skin laxity
- With consistent weight and not notably overweight
- Who are non-smokers
- With realistic expectations
How is an Arm Lift performed?
An arm lift procedure generally takes two hours. The surgeon will create an incision, from the elbow past the armpit. If there is an extreme amount of excess skin and fat deposits, the surgeon may need to extend the incision from the wrist to the armpit. If there are large amounts of fat, liposuction may be used.
What are the recovery expectations after having an Arm Lift?
Recovery from an arm lift typically takes approximately a week to ten days. An arm lift patient may encounter soreness, tightness, tenderness, bruising and swelling, as they go through the healing process.
