Mercy Neurologist Dr. Howie Zheng and Jocelyn Henning, PA, Featured Guests for June 2024’s “Medoscopy”
June 13, 2024
Howie Zheng, M.D., a board certified general neurologist with The Neurology Center at Mercy, and Jocelyn Henning PA, Director of Mercy's Stroke Program, are featured guests on Mercy Medical Center's monthly talk show, “Medoscopy,” airing Wednesday and Thursday, June 19 and 20, at 5:30 p.m. on Facebook Watch.
Dr. Zheng treats patients experiencing symptoms of neurological conditions, including numbness in a single extremity, weakness, loss of memory, tremors, stiff muscles, difficulty swallowing and trouble moving. In past interviews, he has discussed the use of Botox to treat migraines, and a new class of medications for migraine treatment, Calcitonin Gene-related Peptide (CGRP) antagonist drugs.
A Hospitalist Medicine PA for nearly 19 years, Henning has treated stroke and TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack or "mini stroke") patients alongside hospitalists and neurologists. She oversees Mercy's Stroke Program which was developed to address the care needs of the patients with cerebrovascular disease from pre-hospital to post-discharge care including rehabilitation and home care needs.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Zheng originally focused on chemical engineering in college. He would earn his medical degree at the University of Maryland and "rotated through Mercy as a medical student." Dr. Zheng expressed an interest in diet and vegetarian cooking, and used the passing sands of an hour glass to make the point that "time is brain" during a stroke.
Henning revealed her Rochester, New York roots through her family's interest in Buffalo Bills football and the Rochester Red Wings of professional baseball's International League. Henning, whose mother was a "bedside nurse" of more than 40 years in New York (and now works in Mercy's Care Transition Program) noted that all three of her children were born at Mercy.
A 30-minute pre-taped program that explores the background and lives of Mercy clinicians, patients and others, Medoscopy was launched in spring 2022 and airs in two 15-minute segments. Past episodes of Medoscopy are available for viewing on Mercy's YouTube channel.
Medoscopy is filmed on the campus of Mercy Medical Center in downtown Baltimore with video, sound, and lighting by Zinnia Film. Medoscopy received the Bronze Telly Award in 2024 for “Public Awareness & Interest – ONLINE”. Established in 1979, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring video and television across all screens, receiving more than 13,000 entries globally.
