Once women enter menopause and at least after age 50, there is a loss of estrogen. The body breaks down the bone faster than it can replace it. According to Tara Chadwick, M.D., a gynecologist and specialty trained surgeon at The Gynecology Center at Mercy, there are signs to look out for, one being a loss of height.

"Any pain that's out of the ordinary anything that feels off to the patient they should always follow up with their doctor. Other signs, there was a study that proposed decreased grip strength can be associated with bone loss that due to muscle loss and muscle wasting that can be associated with bone loss," Dr. Chadwick said.

Dr. Chadwick also noted that weight-bearing exercise and cardiovascular training can help to keep your bones healthy. Calcium and Vitamin D supplements are also helpful.
