Mercy Medical Center Receives Women's Choice Award for 5th Consecutive Year

Mercy Medical Center has received the Women’s Choice Award distinguishing it as one of the 2016 America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience, the fifth consecutive year Mercy has been so honored.

The Women’s Choice Award identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on such criteria as the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) database, that consider female patient satisfaction and what women say they want from a hospital --including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness, and trusted referrals from other women.

“The Women’s Choice Award examines female patient satisfaction, what women say they want from a hospital. This includes quality communication with doctors, how well nurses and support staff respond to patient needs, the cleanliness of the facility, and so forth. This award reflects the long tradition of the Sisters of Mercy and the efforts of everyone at Mercy to best serve our patients’ health care needs,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO of Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.

“Mercy has a reputation as a leader in women’s health. It’s a reputation founded on the efforts of physicians, nurses, and medical staff in such fields as gynecology, oncology, breast cancer, plastic and reconstructive surgery, the latest in robotic surgical techniques and more,” said Dr. Dwight Im, Medical Director, The Neil B. Rosenshein, M.D., Institute for Gynecologic Care at Mercy.

Women make or influence more than 90 percent of health care decisions for themselves and their families, according to a study published by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Women’s Choice Award indicates that a hospital meets high standards regarding a woman’s preferences, and the distinction allows women to make an informed decision about where to go for care for themselves or their family.

“With the 2016 Women’s Choice Award, the fifth straight year we have been so honored, Mercy continues to garner  honors for its achievements in women’s health,” Mr. Mullen said, noting Mercy’s recognition by U.S. News & World Report as a “Top Hospital,” Mercy’s Nurse Magnet Designation, the Thomson-Reuter’s “100 Best Hospitals” designation, among others.
